Fees on petrol-driven cars

The Swedish government’s investigator, who has worked with how petrol-driven cars quickly can be forced out of the market, wants to use a system of both rewards and fees.

A new car that emits a lot of carbon dioxide will be subject to a fee of up to 40 000 SEK, while cars running on electricity, ethanol or biogas will grant a bonus of a maximum of 48 000 SEK, says investigator Professor Thomas B Johansson in an interview on the Swedish Radio.

According to the Swedish government, no cars should be running on fossil fuels by 2030.
