Gas rebranded as a green fuel by EU
Energy | Gas has been reclassified as a green source of power by Horizon 2020, a euro 80 billion European Union program unveiled last year for research and innovation for the years 2014 to 2020. According to a document seen by the British newspaper the Guardian, a large part of the funds that initially were meant for the development of renewable energy sources may now be used for the construction of more gas power stations and gas exploitation. According to the Guardian, the reported document has been agreed by member states and has been amended by officials to include explicit references for funding for gas, despite this being a fossil fuel and a mature technology. The news comes at the same time as a report from the International Energy Agency, which predicts the next two decades to be a “golden age” of gas. The summary says that gas could grow by over 50 percent by 2035.
