Increased biogas production from Swedish farms
The production of biogas from Swedish farms is substantially increasing, according to statistics from the Swedish Energy Agency.
From 2011 to 2012 the farm production of biogas has more than doubled. The production of biogas based on manure at Swedish farms amounted to 20 GWh in 2011 and increased to 47 GWh the following year. The increase can partly be explained by more facilities in operation during 2012 as well as investment support to these types of plants. Still, the majority of biogas is produced from sludge and food waste.
Furthermore, the Swedish Energy Agency concludes that in 2012, the total production of biogas amounted to 1 589 GWh. This is an increase compared to 2011 when the total production amounted to 1 473 GWh.
