World’s most ecological sauna to open in Finland

Energy production | An unique sauna that produces almost all the energy it uses is under construction in Helsinki. Named Culture Sauna, the sauna features an energy system that minimizes the sauna’s carbon footprint. The system has been developed by the Finnish company Fortum. The heating uses renewable energy, including wooden pellets, solar energy, sea heat and certificated hydro power. Nene Tsuboi, designer, and Tuomas Toivonen, architect, are in charge of the designing, constructing, financing and running of the new sauna, which will open to the public later this year.
